Michael
I am an out gay man, a biblical scholar and currently (Jan 2009) an honorary research advisor in the School of History, Philosophy Religion and Classics at University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia. I have published a number of essays on Bible, sexuality and religion, including contributions to a number of journals and anthologies. I contributed chapters on Genesis, Joshua and the Twelve Minor Prophets to The Queer Bible (2006). My book, Sodomy: A History of a Christian Biblical Myth, was published by Equinox Publications in 2004. I also regularly contribute to, write reviews and referee for the Bible and Critical Theory e-Journal. My current interests include Mary and the sexual politics of Virgin Motherhood, the homo-erotics of atonement, and biblical canonical and textual diversities. As well as my scholarly interests, I have a long history of trade union, queer community and AIDS activism in Brisbane. I have also dabbled for a long time in astrology. I counts myself as a fringe Catholic by religion, in other words I sit across the boundaries of a variety of catholic communions including the Roman one.
